CDC continues to monitor mpox case reports and related surveillance data as case incidence continues to decrease. However, a new cluster of mpox cases reported in early May showed the virus is still spreading, and we need to remain alert. On June 23, CDC released an MMWR, Notes from the Field: Emergence of an Mpox Cluster Primarily Affecting Persons Previously Vaccinated Against Mpox – Chicago, Illinois, March 18-June 12, 2023. During this period, 40 laboratory-confirmed mpox cases were identified in Chicago, including 22 patients who were fully vaccinated against mpox. Although the cause of this cluster has not yet been determined, health departments are encouraged to report vaccination status of mpox patients to CDC for rapid detection of similar clusters among persons who were previously vaccinated.
Mpox isn’t over. As summer events continue, communication to clinicians and the public about mpox prevention and detection is critical. A new way to share reliable and accurate mpox information is by embedding CDC’s mpox content into your website. The CDC mpox microsite is a collection of syndicated content that can seamlessly become part of your website's content. The mpox microsite includes the most popular or frequently visited pages. You can find more information about microsites and how you use them in the attached information sheet.
In addition, consider using CDC’s latest social media graphics and messages to share information about mpox with your audiences. The messages highlight how important it is to get both doses of the vaccine for maximum protection. Social media messages and images can be found in the attached documents.
Thank you for your partnership.
